2024 French Open Is Underway

The 2024 French Open is already underway in Paris at Roland Garris. The qualifying rounds began yesterday and will continue through Thursday. The first round of the French Open officially begins on Sunday. The women’s final is scheduled for Saturday, June 8. The men’s French Open final is the following day, Sunday, June 9.

Novak Djokovic is the defending French Open men’s champion. He’s actually won two of the last three at Roland Garros. Sandwiched in between his 2021 and 2023 victories is one from the all-time leader in wins at the French Open, Rafael Nadal. The Spaniard has won the French Open a total of 14 times. He has three separate win streaks of at least four consecutive French Open wins. 

2024 French Open Odds

Despite his career success, the 37-year-old Nadal is given +1200 odds and is among the first tier of contenders. This year’s French Open favorite is Carlos Alcaraz (+175). He’s followed by Djokovic at +275 and Jannick Sinner at +400. Last week’s Internazionale BNL d’Italia winner Alexander Zverev is next on the board at +600.

On the women’s side, Iga Swiatek is the two-time defending French Open champion. She is the favorite to three-peat at -138. Swiatek is ranked No. 1 in the world and has won three of the past four at the French Open. She won the Internazionale BNL d’Italia in Rome just last weekend.

Swiatek is followed by Aryna Sabalenka, who lost to Swiatek in Rome in the final last week. Sabalenka is listed at +500. She is followed by Elena Rybakina and Coco Gauff, who are both given +600 odds to win this year’s French Open.

  • New guy: William Burns is the new guy on the Top 5. He’s the son of a very well-known sports handicapper. Handicapping is in his blood. It was last night as William hit on the three-way moneyline as Bologna and Juventus played to a 3-3 draw last night. One pick and William collected $213 for his efforts.

Another Game 7 Win

Sticking with the NBA’s theme of road teams in Game 7, the NHL got a taste of what’s to come this playoff season. Caitlin Clark was also in action last night and her Indiana Fever are starting to play better. 

A well known NFL receiver has retired and there is college football news, although it isn’t great. It could be the first of many to come in college football. To see what we’re talking about here, keep reading.

  • Rashada sues: In the first of what could be many, QB Jaden Rashada is suing Florida head football coach Billy Napier and a university booster. Rashada claims he was defrauded out of $13.85 million after he had turned down offers from other schools. Rashada is currently on Georgia’s roster.
  • Oilers win: Edmonton won Game 6 of its series with Vancouver at home. Last night, the Oilers won Game 7 at Vancouver to advance to the Western Conference finals. Edmonton led 3-0 heading into the third period and survived 3-2.
  • Fever improve: After being blown out by Connecticut on the road, the Indiana Fever held their own with the Sun but ultimately lost 88-84 last night. Caitlin Clark had 17 points for Indiana.
  • Parker retires: WR DeVante Parker has officially retired from the NFL after nine seasons. Parker was drafted by Miami with the 14th pick in the 2015 NFL draft. He played seven seasons with the Dolphins before playing the last two in New England. Parker’s retirement could affect the NFL futures market.

French Open Qualifying Is Today

The qualifying rounds of the French Open continue today and will run through Thursday. We’ve got the NBA back on the schedule tonight, but the NHL now takes a night off before we start the conference finals. 

It’s a full card for Major League Baseball today. There are some great matchups and surely our expert handicappers will be providing MLB picks all day long.   1. MLB: We have a full 15 games on the docket today. The Guardians face the Yankees again after upsetting New York last night. Ranger Suarez will try to go 9-0 against the Texas Rangers. The Phillies have won 8 of their last 10 games. So have the Yankees.
  2. NBA: It’s Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals tonight in Boston. The Celtics will host the Indiana Pacers. Boston is a 10.5-point favorite. The total for the game is set at 221.5, a fairly high total for an NBA playoff game.
  1. U.S. Open Cup: There are five matches today in the U.S. Open Cup. That tops the international soccer schedule today. The Chinese Super League plays today and hardcore soccer fans can find some action in the South American pro leagues.
  2. French Open: There are men’s and women’s qualifying matches taking place right now. These qualifiers will continue throughout the day and through Thursday. First round play in the French Open begins on Sunday.
  3. WNBA: Three games are on tap tonight in the WNBA. Dallas is in Atlanta and two-time defending WNBA champs Las Vegas host Phoenix. The Aces are favored by 14.5. The final game tonight features Washington at the Los Angeles Sparks. Looking for WNBA picks? Yeah, we’ve got those too.
